Preparation and Handling
Red River has made substantial commitment
to long-term coal production. The Steer Branch unit-train
load-out facility, on the Norfolk-Southern Railway, is centrally
located in the heart of Red River's mining operations. This
facility is adjacent to an 850-ton-per-hour preparation
plant. The Steer Branch facility has a loading rate of
4,000 tons per hour and can accommodate a 130-car unit train,
with a storage area designed to hold more than 100,000 clean
tons. The Steer Branch facility incorporates a computerized
Kanawha Valley batch-weighing system, a Redding three-stage
mechanical sampling system and computer-controlled blending
capability.
